Tailgating

For those who don't know, tailgating means another car is following too closely, literally sitting on your bumper.  Almost every time I drive to town someone tailgates me because I drive the speed limit--actually I drive five mph above the speed limit--and still, it is too slow for them.  It does have consequenses, and in some cases, they can be deadly.  I don't know the status of the man mentioned in this article from the Sentinel, but he's probably in critical condition right now.  So if you're in a hurry to get somewhere and thinking about tailgating someone to make them go faster--think about what happened here.

A 26-year-old driver suffered head injuries when his vehicle collided with another car early Monday morning near Lithia Springs High School.

Senior Trooper Larry Schnall, Georgia State Patrol spokesperson, identified the victim as Damion Williams, #### Lantern Trail in Lithia Springs. He was transferred by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

The driver of the other vehicle, Alexandra Fowler, 16, of #### Warren Road in Douglasville, complained of minor injuries, according to Schnall.

Schnall said Fowler’s Chevrolet Monte Carlo was traveling east on County Line Road about 8:15 a.m. when she stopped to make a left turn into the high school parking lot.

Williams’ Ford Escort was traveling east behind her and failed to stop, striking the Monte Carlo in the rear, Schnall said.

Fowler was wearing a seatbelt, but Williams was not, he said.

Schnall said Williams will face charges of following too closely and possibly other charges.
